On Friday 12th December, Fairfield Halls in Croydon was transformed into a scene of breathtaking pageantry and festive celebration as Matt took to the stage alongside the world's finest military musicians. In a sold-out performance, the Bands of the Household Division presented Scarlet and Gold, an unforgettable Christmas concert in support of The Household Division Charity.
The evening radiated ceremonial grandeur, with the iconic scarlet uniforms of the Guards providing a dazzling visual backdrop to an atmosphere rich in tradition, pride, and Christmas magic. Guiding the audience through the night was legendary Scottish actor James Cosmo, whose extraordinary career spans over 130 films and acclaimed global television productions, including Game of Thrones. His warmth, wit, and unmistakable presence added gravitas and charm to an already glittering occasion.
As Matt made his entrance, the energy in the theatre lifted instantly. In true Matt style, he had the audience on their feet - clapping, singing, and fully immersed from the very first note. The crowd was treated to an exhilarating set including powerful performances of "I Owe You Nothing," "When Will I Be Famous," "Luck Be a Lady," and a beautifully delivered "The Christmas Song."
A standout moment of the evening came with a deeply moving rendition of "My Way," which brought the audience to an emotional hush before erupting into a standing ovation - a testament to Matt's enduring connection with an audience and his commanding stage presence.
The night concluded in the most joyful and inclusive fashion imaginable, as Matt invited performers and guests to join him on stage for a rousing rendition of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," filling the hall with voices, smiles, and a shared sense of celebration.
In a final gesture of generosity, both Matt and James Cosmo donated their time entirely free of charge, ensuring that every penny raised went directly to The Household Division Charity. It was a night that perfectly captured the spirit of Christmas - uniting music, tradition, and community in support of a truly worthy cause.
